Blueberry Turn-Overs

Ingredients

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour (625 mL)

1/2 teaspoon salt (2 mL)

1/2 cup butter (125 mL)

1/2 cup lard

1 egg

1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 mL)

Cold water

1 cup blueberries (250 mL) fresh/frozen

1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 mL)

1/4 teaspoon allspice (1 mL)

1 egg lightly beaten

Coarsely granulated sugar (if possible)

Directions

To make filling: Combine berries, sugar and allspice.

Roll pastry out to about 1/8- in (3 mm) thickness. Cut into 4 -in (10 cm) rounds.

Place a heaping teaspoon blueberry filling in centre of each. fold each in half; pinch edges very tightly to seal.

Place on ungreased baking sheet. Brush with lightly beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Cut 2 slashes in top of each. Bake in 425 F(220 C) oven for about 15 min. or until golden brown. Makes about 20.
